1986 Topps Tiffany #703 N.L. All-Star

Card Review: 9.1  I love the base card version of this.  For the most part, when I look at these Tiffany cards, I can't help but think how much better today's cards would look on traditional card stock.  This is a nice card, but the gloss adds nothing.

At the time of writing this, this is my only one of this card, and something took a small bite out of the lower left corner.

1990 Topps Tiffany #370

Card Review: 8.7  I'm a big fan of the 1990 Topps set design.  But of all the border colors there are to be found, these dark blue ones are probably my least favorite.  A distinction that I feel even more strongly about with the Tiffany set than I do the base set.  This photo also isn't my favorite.  I see what Topps was going for, with the 3D effect for the bat, but it just doesn't work.  It's also dark for my liking.  Topps would later get it right with the 2003 Fan Favorites Wallach.

1989 Topps Tiffany #720

Card Review: 9.6  The '89 Topps Wallach has gradually grown into one of my all-time favorites.  I'm still not wild about the black/pink combo on the back, but I can live with it.  It translates very well to the Tiffany edition.  Topps Tiffany always put the other outfits to shame when running out glossy editions of their cards.

Card Review: 9.9  The base set version of this card has always been one of my all-time favorites.  For all intents and purposes this card is nicer.  But it's not the "original" so it doesn't get a 10 (blame the Soviet Judge).  These Tiffany's have just never felt "authentic" to me.

1991 Topps Tiffany #220

Card Review: 8.9  I don't know if it's just this card, or if they're all like this, but I find the coloring a bit weird on the front.  It seems less "Tiffany" and more "sun bleached" to me.  There's no shortage of 1991 Topps variations out there and this one doesn't really distinguish itself one way or the other.  I've never been too wild about this card, though I've always like the '91 design.

1984 Topps Tiffany #232

Card Review: 9.6 I love this card.  Some people are down on the '84 Topps design, which I'll never understand.  But I'm also of the age, where '84 was considered the definitive year of cards as far as the 1980's went, due to the Mattingly and Strawberry rookies.  I find the the blue and red backs of the this set, lend themselves very well to the Tiffany treatment, and the Expos logo in general.    There are 5 differnt variations that I know of for this card, the Topps base set, the helmet cropped by the box, the O-Pee-Chee, and Nestle.

1988 Topps Tiffany #560

Card Review: 9.4  While I prefer the standard '88 Topps base card to this Tiffany variation, that shouldn't be seen as a slight against this card.  For people my age, 1988 Topps is a classic, and it's borderline blasphamy to suggest otherwise.  It's a great design, and perhaps the single best photo of Wallach Topps ever featured on a base card.  Sure the green lettering used for the Expos cards seems a little random, but it works (though not as well on the Tiffany.)

1986 Topps Tiffany #685

Card Review: 9.1  I think the Topps Tiffany sets from the 1980's really show how ridiculous their current sets have become.  The Tiffany cards were basically what has become the base card today.  Yet every year Topps trots out another predominately white backed, and white bordered card.  There's no reason they can't do a modern card in a traditional design.

1985 Topps Tiffany #473

Card Review: 9.9  The '85 Topps design is one of my all-time favorites.  I gave the base set card a 10 when I listed that one.  The Tiffany's great too, the back really pops, but it smells neither like wax nor gum.  So I dinged it down to a 9.9.  The color on the front of this card looks a little off to me, but it's my only one, so I don't know if it's just a bad example, or if they're all like this.

Allegedly this set is "very scarce."  As such, sellers often demand a premium for it.  I don't buy it.  I don't find it any more difficult to locate cards from this set, than it is to locate cards from other Tiffany sets.  The reason I don't have a lot has a lot more to do with the excessive price sellers ask for it, than it does an inability to locate copies.

1987 Topps Tiffany #55

Card Review: 9.8  Count me among those that considers the '87 Topps designs one of the all-time greats.  I prefer the base set to the Tiffany, but I still think this is a great looking card.  The "Tiffany" bothered me a lot less (as in not at all) when it was just a quirky alternative to the base set, rather than the base set it more or less is today.
