1988 Sportflics #151

Card Review: 6.3  I'm no fan of Sportflics, even when I was young I didn't really care for them, but this is probably the best looking set they put out during their brief existence.   The back is pretty clean looking with complete career stats, and the way the name changes color is sort of cool.  You can't tell in the scan, but when you rotate the card to see the three different images the name at the bottom changes from white, to baby blue to dark blue while the red border remains the same.  It works much better than the actual pictures which all tend to bleed together.

1987 Sportsflics #20 Expos Team Preview Card

Card Review: N/A  I'm not counting this as a Wallach card, so it's not getting a review, but if it did, it'd get a zero, plus or minus a few fractions of a point.  Wallach is 1/12 of this card.  You can vaguely make out the image of him fielding in the upper right of this corner beneath the image of Randy St. Claire pitching.  There is also a very brief mention of Wallach on the back.

1990 Sportflics #182

Card Review: 3.5  I don't think it's an accident that Sportflics stopped making cards after this lack-luster set.  Granted, it's not any worse than any other Sportfilics' sets.  In actuality it's actually one of their better efforts.  It just couldn't compete by 1990.

When Sportflics debuted in 1986, there were three other options for regular sized cards.  There was room, albeit a tiny spot in the corner of the collecting world, for Sportflics to cut out a little niche of their own.  By 1990, in addition to Topps, Donruss, and Fleer, there was also Score, Upper Deck, Bowman, and Leaf, and I'm sure the people at Sportflics weren't naive to the onslaught of new sets that were being planned for 1991.  They could have tried to press on, and fight for their little corner, but I think ultimately they made the right call by ending their run when they did.

Card Review: 4.6 In retrospect, Sportsflics made some terrible looking cards.  The novelty of them hasn't aged very well.  However that doesn't change the fact that as a seven year old I thought they were one coolest things ever produced.

Fun Facts: On May 4, 1987 Tim Wallach hit 3 home-runs and drove in 6 runs in a 10-7 loss in Atlanta.

Card Review: 5.5 Sportsflics by and large, weren't very nice cards.  They were a gimmick.  But as far as gimmick cards go, this one is better looking than most, and Sportflics at least made more of an effort than many other gimmicky outfits.

Card Review: 4.4  There's not much to say about this card. These sets were gimmicky at the time, and are no less irrelevant today.  As a 6 year old I thought they were pretty cool.


Fun Facts: *Tim Wallach was hit by pitches 10 times in 1986.  He led the NL in the category.
*The Expos finished 29.5 games behind the juggernaut New York Mets of 1986.
