Marion, IN

These 78 cards were sent by Brock of Marion, Indiana.  There were some large quantities of cards that don't often arrive in bulk like this, so this mailing provided a nice little jolt to some of the numbers.  This group also pushed 1993 Topps over the 200 card mark, which is a bit of a sentimental milestone for me.

When the number of card companies and sets exploded in the early 1990's I was a young kid.  I was given a generous $5 a week allowance for doing various "chores," and could occasionally hustle extra money by filling a wagon full of cans to take in for deposits, or asking for extra odd jobs for a few extra bucks from my father.  When cards cost 50¢ a pack up until around 1990, that money went a long ways.  But when the "High-End" sets started coming out, they felt so out of reach that I didn't even lose that much sleep over not being able to buy packs of them.  But by collecting a Wallach from each set, I didn't feel like I was missing out.  It wasn't until 1993 that it really felt like I was.  That was the first year that came and went where I wasn't able to pick up even the Topps base set Wallach.  Shops in my area had stopped carrying "commons" by then, as set builders seemingly went away with the gum, and I was left in the cold that year.  I didn't pick up a 1993 Topps Wallach until the late 1990's when eBay came along.  So to now have 200+ copies in hand feels a bit surreal.

Thanks for the cards Brock.  I'll find some Bonds to send out your way.
