Brooklyn, NY

Peter from Brooklyn last sent cards in February of 2014.  This is the second time he has sent cards.  Thanks for the cards Peter.

Peter's note gives me an oppurtunity to pose a question to anyone willing to answer, but I'm particularly interested in hearing from Mets fans, and it has to do with jersey etiquette.  I'll be going back to New York for a wedding in October, and as it works out will be going to the Mets/Nationals game on the night of Friday, October 2.  It has the potential to be a very important game for the Mets.  I want to know if I'll offend Mets fans by wearing an Expos Wallach jersey.  If they were playing the Phillis or someone, I wouldn't think twice about it.  But being that the Nats used to be the Expos, I don't want to be confused as a Nat's fan.  I'm far from it, and while I'm not really a Mets fan, I at least consider them one of the handful of teams I like and have no problem calling them my favorite team in the NL East every year.  So would an Expos jersey offend Mets fans in New Shea (or whatever corporate sponsor they honor these days)?

Is it ok to wear an Expos jersey to Shea for a Mets/Nats game?

  1. Honestly, the Nationals have been around for a decade now; so, I wonder how many people even make that connection anymore. The club really has it's own separate identity now - I know I sometimes forget they were one and the same.

  2. At Yankee Stadium I see fans wearing the opposing teams jersey all the time, and it is never a problem unless they are belligerent. Does Peter have a blog? I live on Long Island and work in Manhattan and if he trades cards I'd be happy to do an in-person trade with him.

  3. Where I'm from (Toronto), it's always a pleasure to see an Expos jersey. I saw a group of 3 men leaving Tuesday night's game with all of them in Expos gear, and it brought a smile to my face. I think it'd be cool seeing somebody in St. Louis Browns hat or Seattle Pilots jersey. Just signifies a baseball fan to me. I think the Expos are pretty un-hated in general.

  5. The Nationals have pretty much Stalinized their Expos roots. I'm sure some fans will make the connection but I doubt anyone will give you any guff. I'd expect more positive remarks than anything.
